Billing and receiving the funds that flow in and out of the City is the job of the Utility Billing Department. Personnel in the department calculate, bill, and collect payment for more than 7,300 water and sewer customers and approximately 5,900 garbage customers per month. This equates to more than 86,400 meters read and utility bills issued per year.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL CUSTOMERS

Effective October 1, 2005 a new meter deposit ordinance was implemented.
The ordinance reads as such:
'If any utility service of a customer should be discontinued due to nonpayment two times within a 12 month period, a deposit equal to two months average billing rounded up to the nearest $5.00, in addition to the deposit on file, will be required prior to resumption of service.'
To avoid having to pay this additional higher deposit to have your service restored if you are disconnected more than twice in a 12 month period, you will need to ensure that our office has received your payment by the 20th of each month.

UTILITY DEPOSITS
RESIDENTIAL

A $80.00 deposit (if your location has a larger meter - see schedule below) and a $35.00 (non-refundable) processing fee is charged at the time application is made for service with the City of Niceville.
Deposit Application   ~   Water Agreement

COMMERCIAL

Deposits for non-residential customers shall be not less than $80.00 but shall not exceed three times the estimated bill as determined from the published Water, Sewer, Garbage, and Stormwater rate schedules, or $80.00, whichever is greater. Also a $35.00 (non-refundable) processing fee is charged at the time application is made for service with the City of Niceville .

The deposit will be applied to a customer's final bill when they terminate service with the City of Niceville.

WATER AND SEWER BILLS

Water meters are read during the fourth week of each month and bills are mailed as close to the 1st of the month as possible. If you do not receive your bill, please call the Utility Billing Office at (850) 729-4000 after the 7th of the month. Meters are read one month but the billing for that month is not mailed until the following month.
NON-RECEIPT OF A BILL DOES NOT EXEMPT YOU FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF NON-PAYMENT!!

PAYMENT OF UTILITY BILLING

A bill shall not be considered paid until remittance for same has been received at the office of the Finance Department, and the department shall not be responsible for delays or losses in transportation in the mails or otherwise. The fact that a customer does not receive a bill shall not constitute grounds for late payment discount or adjustment.

BILLS ARE DUE UPON RECEIPT

A 10% penalty is added to all balances not paid in full before close of business on the 10th. A drive-by drop box is located in the parking lot at City Hall near the island across from the Police Department. In addition, there is a smaller drop box near the entrance to the Utility Billing Office for your convenience or you can mail your payment to:
     City of Niceville
     208 N Partin Drive
     Niceville, Florida 32578

Mailed bills MUST be postmarked by the 10th to avoid the penalty.

RETURNED CHECKS OR ELECTRONIC DRAFTS

If your payment is returned for any reason, a fee will be charged for the return. It is your responsibility to contact the City of Niceville to make arrangements to make the item good. If the City of Niceville receives the item prior to your contacting us, our policy is to try to contact the customer by phone (leave a message if no answer) or place a door hanger on the door. If our office is not contacted within 24 hours of our attempt to contact the customer the water service will be disconnected and a reconnect fee of $35.00 will be charged also.

Auto Debiting Information

You may also consider signing up for our auto-debiting program. Over 2,000 customers have taken advantage of this service. Your bank account is debited on the 10th of each month, unless the 10th falls on a weekend or holiday. Then your bank account is debited on the next business day. You never need to worry about being late as long as you maintain adequate funds in your account to cover the cost. You will receive a hard copy of the bill each month.
The auto-debiting agreement will remain in effect until either party gives written notice to the other of termination. I understand my notice must be received by the City in time for it to have a reasonable opportunity to act.
