This department issues building permits (electrical, plumbing, and mechanical), occupational licenses, water and sewer taps, zoning, annexation, variance and building site information.

Planning Commission meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7:00PM in the Council Chambers at 208 N. Partin Dr. unless otherwise advertised. The Local Planning Agency meetings follow immediately after the Planning Commission meeting. The public is invited.

CITY OCCUPATIONAL LICENSES

Requirements are mandated by Niceville City Ordinance #228. Prior to purchasing an occupational license, please contact the Niceville Fire Inspector at 850-729-4021 for a fire inspection at the building you intend to do business out of.

For businesses that do not require a physical location, landscapers, painters, sprinkler system installers, etc., a post office box is required to use as your business address. The City of Niceville does not allow home based businesses without a special exception to the Land Development Code, Section 7.14.00.

City Registrations - All contractors, not regulated by the state, i.e., landscapers, painters, handymen, fence installers, tile setters, etc., who operate their businesses from an address outside of the city limits are required to purchase a City Registration Certificate for $40.00. Requirements for purchasing this license are: Okaloosa County Occupational License, Certificate of Insurance for 100,000.00 general liability and worker's comp.

Florida Certified Contractors are not required to purchase a license with the City of Niceville, but must show proof of state license when purchasing a permit.

Florida Registered Contractors (through Okaloosa County) are not required to purchase a license with the City of Niceville, but must show proof of state license and an Okaloosa County Competency Card.

    PROCEDURES FOR ANNEXATION, RE-ZONING AND SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS


    1. Letter of request from the property owner, owner's signature and a copy of the warranty deed. For annexations, the present Okaloosa County zoning is required and Okaloosa County Future Land Use Designation. Parcel ID #, found on warranty deed or tax notice.

    2. Provide this office with the names and addresses of property owner’s within a 300' radius. This information must be obtained by calling the Okaloosa County Property Appraiser’s Office at 651-7240. It must be certified by a signature.

    3. There is a $225.00 charge for legal and advertising fees. There may also be an additional charge (actual cost incurred) if a Comprehensive Plan Amendment is required.

    4. The current water and sewer impact fees are as follows: water - $1,550.00 and sewer - $5,830.00.

    5. THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE BUILDING INSPECTOR'S OFFICE BEFORE THE 5TH OF EACH MONTH.

    6. The City will install signs on the property with the necessary information as to the kind of request being made.

    7. Planning Commission meetings are held the 1st Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the city of Niceville Council Chambers,208 N. Partin Drive. Property owner or a representative should be present.

    8. City Council meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the City of Niceville Council Chambers.
